Google Music Beta

Just downloaded and installed Google's new Music Beta service. I am currently in the process of downloading my entire iTunes library. It says it has a max of 20,000 songs, and I have over 4,000 tracks. Not sure how long this will take, but will keep you posted.

To my surprise, it offered to download several free songs from several genres. I took advantage of this during the installation, and will have to check out the quality of these tracks once the uploads have completed.

  1. Nearly 3 hours since the upload began, and we are at just over 900 songs transferred. I am going to let this run all night and see if it is done in the morning. If so, it will be cool to access my entire music library from any computer or my phone from anywhere. Cloud data storage is becoming the next big thing. The need for multiple external drives and high capacity micro SD cards will go away. Cha cha cha changes!

  2. 11 hours later and we are only at 1,500+ songs uploaded. I will continue to let this process run all day today, and check back in when I get home from work. I hope it will be finished by then.

  3. 22+ hours later and we still have about 1,000 songs to go on the upload. I am surprised it is taking this long. I would have guessed it would have only taken a few hours to upload 4,300 songs & podcasts.

The Google Music app for my Android (HTC EVO 4G) phone works great. I am able to find songs, create playlists, and listen to my library on the go.

  4. Upload finally finished a little after 7pm tonight! Now I begin the cleanup of song titles, artists, and album names.
